Are you socialising but still lonely?

Use these strategies to overcome loneliness!

Loneliness is a universal emotion every human has gone through or will through at certain points in their lives. People feel it when they are an introvert in nature and hesitate to interact in social scenarios. Some people feel it when they have shifted to a new place or school and struggling to make friends. There are situations where people face the social stigma that leads them to prefer intentional isolation and suffer loneliness.

The truth is that each of us has been there for one reason or another. We can all relate to this feeling of loneliness regardless of age group.

If you want to cope with loneliness, try following these 5 tips:

  • Get a Pet: Pets are the best kind of companion a human can have. Try rescuing a pet, especially a dog or a cat, and it will help you build a deeper connection and grow the feeling of companionship in you by overcoming loneliness.

  • Talk to friends and family: Reaching out to your family and friends and sharing your feeling of loneliness will help you to shed the burden from your heart. Even if it may feel hard at the start, take it slowly and one step at a time.

  • Practice self-care: “Sometimes you need to take a break from everyone and spend time alone to experience, appreciate, and love yourself.” – Robert Tew
The feeling of loneliness can be a sign to start looking in the areas of life that you may have neglected that needs to heal and be fulfilled. Try getting better sleep, watch your most awaited series, travel solo, or do anything that may interest you.

  • Try social media detox: "Loneliness is a lack of purpose, not the company." – Guillermo Maldonado
The problem with this social media-made generation is that they have so much to see, hear, and read that sometimes it becomes overwhelming to process it. Unplugging from social media platforms and creating time to do things for your well-being will reduce the feeling of loneliness or FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).

  • Consider getting Therapy: Most people have a skeptical opinion about consulting a therapist. Loneliness and depression may have a direct connection that can lead you to mental and physical illness. So communicating your thoughts with a therapist will not only help you experience less loneliness but have more instruments to prevent it.

The next time you feel lonely, take your time out and try doing things that make you feel good. And remember this-"Every situation in life is temporary. So, when life is good, make sure you enjoy and receive it fully. and when life is not so good, remember that it will not last forever and better days are on the way." -Jenni Young
