How to create an impressive LinkedIn account to crack internships and placements

If you think that having a Linkedin profile is only essential for working professionals, then you are living in a bubble! More than 75% of organizations today check the Linkedin profiles of their prospective employees before conducting the interview. Therefore, creating a professional online presence on Linkedin is equally significant for students. So, without any delay, let's get started with the basics to create your identity in the world's largest professional network.

1. Profile picture:  Refrain from using a picture that is clicked at a wedding or party. Keeping a professional image will help to establish a good reputation.

2. Headline:  It's recommended to write only one profession in a headline to highlight it for recruiters. Students can write- "Looking out for opportunities in XYZ field".

3. Space Bar(|):  A clean and concise headline makes the profile unforgettable. Use | to separate your experiences and internships.

4. About:  In this section, summarise your profile in 6 lines. The format should be: 2 pairs of lines and space. Repeat the same for the other 4 lines. Your 1st two lines will talk about-

  • Your college, and course
  • Why are you doing that particular course in that college?
2nd two lines will talk about-
  • Soft skills
  • Hard skills
3rd two lines will talk about-
  • What you aspire to become in future

5. Featured:  Use this section to showcase your CV, and best work samples.

6. Experiences:  Add and describe your profession here in 6 lines.

  • In 1st two lines tell about your company, mission, vision, and values.
  • In 2nd two lines write your roles & responsibilities in the company.
Note: For clear understanding, write your roles as primary work, and responsibilities as secondary work.
  • The last 2 lines will tell about your work performance in the following manner:

You can also attach your professional certificate in add media of experience section.

7. Education- Add the different levels of your education in this section. You can also add your school/college activities and societies.

8. Skills & Endorsements:

  • Skills- It's recommended to keep a balance of 60% and 40% between your soft & hard skills. High schoolers should add 3-4 skills. If you're a first-year college student then add a maximum of 8 skills. A final-year student should not add more than 12-14 skills.
  • Endorsements- With this feature, your connections can recognize and endorse your skills on this platform.
Note: Always ask your immediate seniors or juniors to endorse your skills.

9. Recommendations:  Start improving your profile and networking using this feature. An effective way of requesting recommendations from any of your connections is by adding a personalized message to it.

10. Add licenses & certificates:  You should increase your profile credibility and authenticity by adding certificates that you’ve achieved on the successful completion of course or internship.

  • Build strong 500+ connections with your peers and other professionals.
