A person who has self-understanding can make himself thrive and survive in any situation of his/her life. In this blog, you will understand how self-understanding helps bring awareness to your life and rediscover yourself.
Self-understanding is realizing your uniqueness
We all know that every single individual born on this earth is unique, and every one of us is different from the other. But to self-understand how different you are, you should challenge yourself by asking the question 'In what way I'm unique?' A person can be unique in many ways like unique in his thought, in a profession, or, by being charitable. The synergy between our brain and heart creates uniqueness in us. Some of us have a balance in using both, and some might grow to use the extreme end of either side. This creates our identity and builds uniqueness.
If someone has done wrong to you, you don't have to intentionally give it back to them. It is self-understanding that instead of hurting them back, you move ahead to not hurt yourself. But if you have to suffer a loss because of someone's wrongdoing, then you should fight back for your rights. Remember that if your attention is on hurting someone, then your attention is not on building your life.
As human beings, we are evolving every day. Our understanding of ourselves is divided into our understanding of our parents, blood relations, friends, relatives, romantic partners, and the people we meet on daily basis. You will only have a real understanding of yourself, the time you will know this is your last breath. Until that moment every experience coming to you will bring in different understandings of the self. If you won't stay open to it, you will restrict your self-understanding.
50% of your understanding comes from within, and 50% of understanding comes from the external world. When we talk about understanding ourselves, it comprises not only what we learn or teach ourselves, it also the information being fed to us by outsiders we meet day-to-day. If you find any information important while interacting with people, then it subconsciously gets fed to your brain to protect yourself or take better action in the future.
Self-understanding means finding balance
Most people keep polishing their strengths and they try to ignore or suppress their weaknesses. We have limited our understanding of strengths with skills, and we don't know that being polite, sensitive, or humble also counts as a strength. Self-understanding is acknowledging our weaknesses and strengths to use them as a tool by finding a balance in between.
